Cerwin Vega V-Max 124 dvc x2 (Video 2)

A video showing the excursion of my two Cerwin Vega V-Max 124 dvc woofers! The woofers are mounted in a box with two separate sealed 32 liters chambers (The correct size is two separate sealed 28,3 liters chambers but I made it bigger by accident) and connected to a Sinus Live SL A-1500 monoblock amplifier! How to Install a Head Unit

Before you begin-
How to wire a wiring harness:

READY?? Let's go, dude!

1.) Remove negative battery cable from battery:

This is simple, and is an easy step to skip, but I will tell you now that on more than one occasion I have messed up a piece of gear because I was careless and did not disconnect the battery. Be safe, be smart. Just spend the 2 seconds to unhook the battery. PLEASE!!!

2.) Disassemble dash/console head unit mounting location

To get the factory head unit out is usually a pretty easy process. Most times it only requires the removal of a few panels and screws. Sometimes these panels are held on with clips instead of screws, so you'll want to get a panel removal tool to remove them safely.

There is an absolutely great website called http://www.installdr.com/ that has excellent guides to the installation of gear in certain vehicles.

3.) Dismount factory head unit

Once you have the panels off that surround the factory head unit, unmount the factory radio. It is often held on by bolts. If the radio is mounted on any sort of bracket or cage, remove the brackets or cage with the factory unit still intact. These brackets or cages can be useful in mounting the new head unit.

4.) Put together aftermarket install kit (if necessary)

If your vehicle needs an install kit, now is the time to put it together. Think about how the head unit will fit into the install kit, and from there to the vehicle. This is where those factory brackets or cages may come in handy. Once the head unit is secured to the install kit, and ready for install...

5.) Hook up wiring harnesses, antenna adapters, RCA cables, interface cables

Hook up all of the stuff that needs to be plugged in, such as...

Wiring harness: For power, ground, power antenna, amp turn-on, speaker power, etc.

Antenna adapter: Adapts your factory antenna to your aftermarket head unit.

RCA Cables: If you have an amp in your system, and you want to use the pre-outs on your head unit, hook up your RCA cables.

Input cables: If you want to hook up and RCA input to hook up an mp3 player or other device, plug that cable in; if your head unit offers an RCA input feature.

Interface cable: Hook this up if you have CD/DVD/MP3 Player installed in your vehicle, or if you want to hook up ipods, satellite radio and other devices

6.)Test

Okay, it's all hooked up. You're so excited! You've re-connected the battery, you turn the key, and bam! The screen turns on, and you feel good. The music sounds good, the CD plays, everything is well. Great!

What if it doesn't work?

Check your wiring

Be sure you remembered to hook the battery back up

Be sure the unit is getting power. Use a digital multi-meter.

7.) Mount and secure new head unit

Once it is all working, mount the new head unit to it's location. Be sure it fits well, and looks good with the panels on. Be sure it's straight. We're doing a professional job here, not some lame quickie job. If you have funky screws (like torx, or other odd shaped screws), try to incorporate these into your install. This will make your head unit more difficult to steal.

You also will want to mount your head unit with a backstrap. This is a long metal strip with holes that you can use to stabilize the rear of the unit. Find a place to attach the backstrap to the vehicle, then attach it to the head unit.

8.) Tweak to sound best with amps

If you have amps in your system, you'll want to tweak them with your new head unit. The first step is to turn the gains on your amps all the way down. Pick out a well recorderd piece of music that isn't too loud or bass heavy. Look for one with good balance. From here, be sure all of the sound enhancement effects on your head unit are turned off, be sure the treble and bass are neutral, the fader is centered, the balance is centered, and no sort of loudness control or eq preset is active. Turn your head unit all the way up, or until you begin to hear distortion. If you hear distortion, back off the volume until it is completely gone. No more adjustment is necessary. Just remember not to turn the volume past that point of distortion! If there is no distortion, go to your amplifier's gain controls, and turn them up one at a time until distortion is heard. Back the volume up a few notches, and you're set. Turn the volume on your head unit down, and you're stereo is now all ready to go.

PAL to NTSC Conversion Services

The movie tape that you bought in a foreign land, most likely will not play in your VCR and also, you will not be able to watch it on your TV. It is also true the other way round. Video standards differ from country to country. There are three types of video standards that are being used in the world and these are, PAL, NTSC and SECAM. PAL standard is used in Western Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, India, and China. South America uses the derivatives of the PAL system, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL with the Unites States using National Television Standards Committee (NTSC). SECAM is being the standard in France and some other neighbouring countries of France, which were once under the French colonial rule. Every part of the world uses a mixture of these standards and as a result, video tapes from one part of the country are found to be incompatible with the standard prevalent in the other.

It is interesting to note as to why this difference in standards were first created. In order to work, TV receivers need to have a source for its field timing reference signals. The timing signals enable the TV to receive the next frame in a synchronised manner, that is, these signals tells the TV to be ready to receive the next picture in the stream of images. At the beginning of early design consideration, TV designers decided to use the mains power frequency as a source to generate the synchronisation signals. The decision to do so had two very good reasons.

 In old designs of power supply, you would get the rolling hums in the TV picture tubes, which happened because of the mismatch of the TV power supply frequency with that of the main power supply.

 The TV cameras in those days would have much flicker which created enormous problem when shooting programs.

There are two main power frequency standards that are being used in the world - 50Hz and 60Hz. This immediately divided the world into different TV standards, with one having 25 frames per second (50Hz) and the other, 30 frames per second (60Hz). At a later time, the 60Hz standard frequency was adjusted to 59.94Hz in order to accommodate colour signals. The issue relating to field frequency remained with the design, even after the original technical reasons had gone. The biggest problem regarding TV standards remain related to the field rate and it is hard to find a solution.

Besides the difference between the standards using 50Hz and 60Hz, further division appeared since the time the colour broadcasting came in. The majority of the 60Hz countries started to use a technology called NTSC standard, developed in the United States by a committee called the National Television Standards Committee. With NTSC a video or closed circuit environment works perfectly, while a broadcasting environment displays a hue of different colours with this standard.

Most of the countries using 50Hz as their main power frequency have adopted the PAL standard. It is not that the PAL system is the only colour system standard using the 50Hz main power frequency, the French developed their own SECAM (SEquential Couleur Avec Memoire) standard. This they did for some political reasons, mainly to protect the interest of their own TV manufacturers. SECAM has been also adopted by most of the East European countries, in order to be different with its western counterparts.

PAL Technology

PAL technology was developed in Germany by Walter Bruch, and was first introduced in the year 1967. It is an analog video format used in television transmission and is widely used in Europe, Australia and some Asian, African, and South American countries. Within Europe - France, Bulgaria, Russia, Yugoslavia, and some other countries in Eastern Europe mainly uses SECAM technology. PAL system uses 625 lines per frame, with the refresh rate at 25 frames per second, inter-laced. This interlacing feature improves the picture quality without consuming any extra bandwidth. In PAL system, each frame consists of two fields, which is termed as half-a-frame. In each of these two fields, the first one displays all the even lines and the other one displays the odd, within these 625 lines. These two fields are displayed in succession and there are 50 fields per second, corroborating with the 50Hz mains power frequency.

There are variants in PAL. PAL-M is a combination of PAL and NTSC, using 525 lines per frame at 60Hz. This standard is used in Brazil, while PAL-N is another derivative of PAL, using narrow bandwidth and the standard is used in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. United Kingdom uses the other variant of PAL, PAL-I, with other European countries using PAL-B/G. PAL60 is similar to NTSC and uses 59.94 fields per second. It is used mainly for displaying NTSC video or DVD on a PAL TV set.

NTSC Technology

The video standard in the United States have been set by the National Television Standards Committee, which is called NTSC in short. This standard has been adopted in other countries as well, such as, Japan. NTSC standard has 29.97 interlaced frames of video a second, often specified as 30 frames per second, with 525 lines per frame. Out of these 525 lines, 480 lines are used for vertical resolution and the rest are used for synchronisation, vertical retrace, and other data such as captioning. The scan lines in NTSC are interlaced, with two fields containing the odd scanned lines and the even ones respectively. This provides a near flicker free image utilising 59.94Hz refresh rate, which comes to 60 cycles at 1.001 seconds. This is close to 60Hz alternating current power used in the United States.

In trying to convert NTSC to PAL or SECAM, the most difficult part is the mismatch of the frame rate between the three. In the process of this conversion, the equipment used is made to guess the contents of the intermediate frames which introduce artifacts. This is quite detectable by trained eyes. A frame consists of a packet of composite image information and the 525 lines per frame in the NTSC standard may contain up to 16 million colours. A composite signal would mean a video signal which contains all the colours, such as, red, blue, and green signals and may also consist of audio signals.

Radio interferences is known to disturb NTSC transmission, therefore by the time the picture gets transmitted on to your TV screen, the picture often loses its colour balance. This necessitates the inclusion of a "tone" or "hue" control on NTSC sets, which is not necessary in PAL and SECAM TV sets. Further more, some observers find that with NTSC, the 525 line resolution of NTSC results in a lower quality image than the hardware is capable of.

SECAM Technology

SECAM is the short form of Sequentiel Couleur avec Mémoire, French for "sequential color with memory". This is an analog system which uses Frequency Modulation (FM) for encoding the chrominance information. SECAM technology stores the lines of colour information in a memory. This does not produce the colour artifacts that are found in the NTSC systems. SECAM was developed with PAL as the basic design. Contrary to PAL, it transmits Red-Yellow and Blue-Yellow information in alternate lines and they are combined by storing the video lines.

SECAM was introduced in France in the year 1967 and it is still being used. It is also being used in the countries which were French colonies before, as well as parts of Eastern Europe, like, Bulgaria, Hungary, and former Soviet Union. It is observed that this had a political motive, mainly with the former Soviet Union restricting their broadcasts along with its member East European countries, within its own people, making it impossible for most Eastern Europeans to view television which was broadcasted from outside the Iron Curtain which were mostly using PAL.

The Conversion - PAL to NTSC

The heart of conversion is the converter itself. There are many converters available in the market in different qualities. There are service providers who would convert your tapes to the appropriate standard against a charge. In converting a PAL standard to NTSC, the most difficult part is the different numbers of lines and different frequencies of fields/frames in video pictures that exist in the two standards. Considering that that PAL has is 625 lines at 50 fields per second and with NTSC, having 525 lines at 60 fields per second, it is quite difficult to convert one to the other. Further, generating 60 fields per second from a format with 50 fields per second is quite a challenging task. In doing so, every second new 10 fields need to be generated out of nothing. The converter has to create new image at the output from the PAL input signals and that too in real time. Therefore, converting an incoming 50 frames per second PAL signal to 60 frames per second NTSC signal requires much skill, so as to use the existing information to provide a quality conversion.

If a video image can be taken as a series of individual picture elements or pixels, arranged across the screen as a grid, the number of rows can be taken as the number of lines in the displayed image. In order to interpolate the number of lines at the output in relation to that of the input, some mathematical process is involved in placing the pixel on the output line along with the hue and luminance for each pixel. The interpolation algorithm enables a pixel to be picked up from the video that is the input side, and placing it appropriately on the output buffer side.

Conversion interpolation methods used in converters are much the same, except that the process have a three dimensional relationship and these are, the horizontal and vertical dimensions plus the added dimension of time to account for motion between fields. This complicates the earlier thought-out method, as we are now thinking of 3 grids to match three dimensional arrays. The third dimension is related to time which represents motion from one field to the other. Therefore, the relationship between the input and the output becomes complicated.

In processing a motion effectively, you need to detect the motion and its direction at the first place. There are various kinds of converters dealing with this motion and the direction of it, in various ways. The cheapest kind never bothers with it. The next grade of converters is those which track the motion over two fields, while the professional grade tracks up to 6 fields. The greater numbers of field tracked, provides more accurate predictions of motion.

In converting a PAL system to NTSC, having 625 lines @ 25 frames per second and 525 lines at 30 frames per second respectively, it can be observed that every second 100 lines needs to be dropped in the process of conversion. With dropping 100 lines, an additional 5 frames need to be created. In the inexpensive converters, the 100 lines are just dropped to create 525 lines out of PAL 625 equally spaced through frames. In order to create 5 new frames, it just repeats a single frame 5 times, thus effectively adding 5 frames. It works fine as along as the image is not moving or is in motion.

Video is a dynamic medium and with the kind of conversion just discussed, the effect is highly undesirable. The more sophisticated converters measure the nature of motion within the video and then employing a more complex algorithm dynamically produce a corrected and well compensated output.

The mid-range converters deploy inter-field interpolation, which create new frame not by just repeating one frame but by averaging adjacent fields. In converting PAL to NTSC, there are two method used by these converters, one being the 2-line, where the converter creates a new line by comparing adjacent two lines and the 4-line ones, creating the 5th line comparing 4 adjacent lines. As the averaging of the adjacent lines goes up, the greater is the picture smear. There needs to be a compromise. As the complexity increases, the price tag of the converter goes up.

There are various other kinds of quite complex converters, which produce better and better converted output as the price of the converter goes up. There are many service providers offering PAL to NTSC conversion with price ranging fro $20 to $40 for a 120 minute to 6 and 8 hours of play time. When you buy a video tape in a foreign land, in a country which uses PAL, you can drop the tape with one of these service providers who would give you a converted tape on NTSC for your viewing, with some of them providing volume discount. The prices are generally exclusive of delivery charges.

A Guide To Easy Car Amplifier Installation

Installing car amplifiers is challenging. You have to make sure the amplifier gets enough air circulation to keep from overheating while enclosing it in a way that prevents theft. Satisfying these needs doesn't always yield the best looking results. But, you can still show off your personal style when installing your amplifier with these simple suggestions.

Picture how you want the amp to look. Are you thinking "high tech" with a concealed panel? Or, are you going for a more industrial look with visible cables? Paint it; Wrap it in leather, carpet, or vinyl. Use your imagination and your rack design will show your style.

Airflow is a major consideration when installing an amplifier. The electronics in the amplifier produce a lot of heat when you crank up volume, and heat can damage the components. Ample airflow is essential for good performance and reliability and two ways to accomplish this are convection and forced-air systems.

The simplest cooling method is convection. It's simple because most car amplifiers come with convection cooling already built in. Convection occurs when the warm air inside the amplifier rises and dissipates through the fins of the aluminum heat sink. Warm air is replaced by cooler air drawn from below creating a continuous circulation of cool air that prevents the amp from overheating. Convection cooling works fine as long as the air circulates. The ideal would be to install the rack on a vertical surface in an open space with the fins vertically aligned.

A forced air system has triple the cooling capacity of a simple convection system. Simply adding an electric fan to increase airflow over the amplifier's heat sinks makes a big difference. That's one reason why high power amplifiers have thermostats; thermostats control the fans. If your rack holds multiple convection cooled amplifiers, it's worth it to install multiple fans. The cooler the amps, the longer they'll last. Running power for a fan is just a matter of connecting with the source unit's remote turn on lead since most accessory fans run on 12v DC. When the system turns on, the fans start up along with the other components on that circuit.

Now that you've got this great amplifier you want to show it off, but, how do you keep it from being stolen? If you can see the rack from the outside, you could be tempting fate. Consider one of the following options to prevent someone from stealing your equipment.

1.Make it detachable by fastening the amp rack with wing nuts. If the amplifier takes up cargo space, being able to take it out of the vehicle is an asset. However, removing the rack every time you park your car can be a hassle.

2.Create a removable secret panel to conceal the rack. The cover can be made of anything from fabric to fiberboard.

3.Install a good security system.

Use all three deterrents for the ultimate protection. Detachability provides extra security and additional cargo space when necessary. A removable panel is convenient. And, finally, a security system provides the last defense. You put a lot of effort into this project. Protect your work in style.

What is the Difference Between SATA and PATA?

In the Vehicle Hard Disk Players and Vehicle Hard Disk Video Recorders, two kinds of disk are available, namely, SATA and PATA. Next, we will briefly explain the difference between the two.

PATA stands for parallel ATA. Parallel ATA drives have a long history, from ATA33/66 to ATA100/133 and now we have ATA150.

SATA stands for Serial ATA. The writing speed of ATA100 is 65MB/s, but the speed of the first generation of SATA is 150MB/s, and the second generation reaches 300MB/s. SATA is meant to replace PATA, just like DDR and SDRAM.

The port of hard disk links the disk and the host, transmission data between the disk cache and the memory of the host, therefore, the quality of the port has a direct impact on the speed and function of the whole system. In general, we have two kinds of disc port, IDE and SATA. The former one is usually applied in the players and recorders of the early stage. SATA is newly emerged, enjoys great popularity, with a promising future in the line of vehicle products.

IDE:

IDE stands for "integrated Drive Electronics", which integrate the hard disk controller and the body of the disk. In this way, it reduces the number and the length of the cable of the disc, enhanced the credibility of data transmission, making the producing of the disk easier, since the manufacturers don't have to worry about whether their own disk is compatible with the controller manufactured by other companies. In addition, it makes the installation of the disk more convenient for the customers. IDE disc is irreplaceable since IDE port keeps upgrading itself, with the function of it always improving; besides, it has a high quality-value ratio. IDE represents a genre of hard disk, however, in actual application, people are more accustomed to calling it ATA-1, the firs generation of IDE, but it has been culled as the development the port technology. Lots of other types of port emerged afterwards, such as ATA, Ultra, DMA, Ultra DMA, and they all belong to IDE disk.

SATA:

The hard disk that uses SATA port is also called SATA disk, which the trend of the disk in vehicle electronic products. In 2001, the Serial ATA commission, constituted of Intel, APT, Dell, IBM, Seagate, Maxtor, set the standard for Serial ATA 1.0. In 2002, although the SATA disk related products had not been publicly listed, the Serial ATA Commission has set the standard for Serial ATA 2.0. Serial ATA adopts serial data link mode, and Serial ATA bus adopts embedded clock signal, which possess more powerful capability of error correction.

Compared with the previous ones, its main difference is that it can examine the transmission order, besides the data. It will correct itself if any error is detected, which, to a large degree, improves the credibility of data transmission. In addition, the structure of SATA port is simple, and it supports hot-swap as well.

SATA port is a totally different type of disk port. Compared with PATA, SATA possesses many advantages. On one hand, SATA transfers data in a consecutive serial mode, one piece of data at a time, thus, it reduces the number of the pin of the SATA port and also the number of the linking cables, as a result, the effectiveness will be improved. In fact, Serial ATA can work with only 4 pins, and they are applied in linking cables, linking ground wire, transmission data, and receiving data. Besides, this structure minimizes the consumption of the system and makes it less complicated. On the other hand, Serial ATA has a higher initial point, with much potentiality.

The data transmission speed of Serial ATA 1.0 can reach up to 150MB/s, which is even higher than the newest edition of PATA, ATA/133, which can transfer data at a speed of merely 133MB/s. Furthermore, Serial ATA 2.0 will reach up to 300MB/s, and finally SATA can transfer data at a speed of 600MB/s.

Technically, how much faster is SATA than PATA?

Since SATA are meant to replace PATA, then what are SATA's advantages, comparing with PATA? Comes first is speed, as we mentioned above, the second generation of SATA can transfer data at 300MB/s, and third one can reach as high as 600 MB/s. Therefore, in light of speed, SATA is way advanced than PATA. What's more, the transmission mode of SATA is much better than IDE's. SATA adopts single-channel transmission mode while IDE adopts multi-channel transmission code. Literally, some people may think that, multi-channel must be faster than single-channel, but, it's not the truth.

The reason is that SATA doesn't have a limit over its speed frequency as IDE does. The transmission line's transmission speed of SATA is 30 times faster than that of IDE. IDE has to transfer 16 signals at a time, and if the signals don't reach in time or there is a delay, there will be data errors. As a result, the transmission speed of the bit stream will have to slow down to correct the errors. SATA transfers bit data one at a time and the transmission speed of the bit stream is much faster. Furthermore, another improvement of SATA is that its data is consecutive, with smaller size and better heat dissipation and easier disk connection. Compared with IDE, SATA is of much lower consumption rate, which is an absolute advantage for vehicle products, together with its exclusive CRC technology, making the data transmission much safer.

According to this technological state, Yusong products select its hard disk port in this way: IDE ports for vehicle mp4 players, vehicle mp5 adopt dual port, that is, both of IDE and SATA are applied. All of the hard disk recorders adopt SATA port.

Car Audio Capacitors - Why You Can't Do Without Them

I've heard the question asked many times before, 'Do I really need a capacitor?' Before answering that question I ask, 'Do you have a high powered system?' 'Does it require sudden power bursts?' 'Is your amplifier being robbed of power?' If the answers to my questions are yes, make every effort to connect a capacitor to your car audio system.

A capacitor is a bit similar to your car battery; it stores electrical energy. But unlike a battery it doesn't produce its own power, it simply stores it. A car audio capacitor will help you get the most from your amplifier. It will store power for release on demand, delivering it to your amplifier just when it's needed.

Your car amplifier requires a lot of power to play loud music, especially when there's lots of heavy bass. Without a capacitor your amplifier will be robbed of power by parts like your lights, engine, and air conditioner.

So what happens when your car audio amplifier doesn't receive enough power?

A common occurrence is dimming lights. In such a situation the light will follow the beat of the music. The light will dim each time a heavy bass note sounds. If you were to turn off the lights, your car stereo system would suddenly sound louder and the music would be cleaner.

Your amplifier is simply trying to use more energy than the electrical system can supply. If a capacitor had been present there would have been enough energy to power your amp. That electrical energy would have already been stored.

When you want to reduce headlight dimming, improve bass response, and increase the power of your amp, a stiffening capacitor is a must. Equipped with capacitor and an adequate power supply, your system will get every bit of current it needs. Voltage drops will be a thing of the past.

Blowing Walmart JVC 12 inch subwoofer

I bought a JVC 12 inch subwoofer from walmart on sale for $45 dollars, and I didn't buy it to blow it out, but the foam surround ripped up while I was moving it from one box to another. It had a raised plastic loop around it that made it dificult to screw in screws at an angle, and it had started to come up, so I just took it off not knowing that it was also glued to the foam surround, so it ripped the surround. I got pissed and blew it out, here is the video. I just used the bass test you hear in the beginning of the song to blow it. It actually put up a good fight, I only show about 1 minute before it blows, but It took a good 10 minutes to actually get to that point.

DVD Recorders - Tips and Secrets to Save You Time and Money

DVD Recorders are in my opinion one of the most falsely advertised and promoted Consumer products of all time because while most people know the good stuff, very few people are aware of the bad stuff until after they've purchased them. Having said that, you can still get good DVD Recorders for between $50-$100, the key is knowing what you're planning to use them for. You're now saying "Duh, to record DVDs". Well there are limitations on recording which is the "Bad Stuff" and this article will give you general pointers on how to save money when buying a DVD recorder and DVD recordable media (DVD%2BR, DVD-R, DVD%2BRW and DVD-RW).

There are 3 types of DVD recorders: Internal computer DVD recorders aka DVD burners, external computer DVD Recorders aka external DVD burners and Stand Alone DVD Recorders (Some DVR's have a DVD recording drive as well). You can record TV Shows on stand alone DVD recorders as well as computer DVD recorders if your computer has a card installed that will let you receive broadcasts from Cable TV provided there is a "hub" to connect your cable too. The main difference between the stand alone DVD recorders and the computer Internal and external recorders are that the stand alone DVD Recorders can not as far as I know record in 5.1 sound while internal and external computer DVD recorders can. This is one of the things they don't tell you about Stand Alone DVD recorders. One thing however I found the Stand Alone DVD Recorder to do better/easier than a computer DVD recorder is to transfer old Video tapes to DVD.

The Major Thing they don't tell you about DVD recorders is it's almost impossible to make a DVD recording of a commercially sold DVD as most of them are encrypted, as well as being illegal. I believe that making recordings of non-encrypted commercial DVDs is also illegal. There are no commercially sold retail software or devices as far as I know that will let you record copies of commercial DVDs that have been encrypted. So if you are planning to buy a DVD recorder to make recordings of commercially sold DVDS, you are wasting your time. Note, if you do a search on the internet there probably is software that will allow you to make these recordings, however doing so is illegal.

The other thing they don't really tell you about DVD Recorders is that they are built to self destruct as the lasers eventually wear down, While stand alone and external computer DVD recorders are relatively cheap, they usually don't last more than a couple of years before their lasers break down. The good news is, they're relatively cheap and just consider them a disposable product. My internal computer DVD Recorders have never broken down. You do need software to record DVD's on your computer and a lot of these players come with software. I use Nero Software which I love and which is also good for burning CDs as well.

I recommend if you are buying a stand alone DVD recorder for basic recording of TV shows, to buy any Lite-On DVD Recorder with a built in TV Tuner, that you can get under $100. Lite-On is incredibly easy to use as they have a really good easy remote control program that guides you step by step. The picture and sound are good as well. I say its better to spend under $100 on something that you know will eventually break down then spend $250 or more for a fancier recorder that will also eventually break down. Whatever you do, do not buy a used or refurbished DVD recorder because its life is even more limited as its laser has already been worn down- to what degree you don't know.

If your computer does not have an internal DVD recorder, you can get a decent small external DVD recorder for between $50-$95 new. I would recommend an HP 20x Super Multi DVD Writer (Recorder) which you can get for under $60 new at discount. Most of these players come with free software and as I mentioned I would go with any one that came with Nero software. The external DVD recorders connect easily to your computer by USB and they record CDs as well. They also play CDs and DVDs besides recording them.

I would recommend if you are using a stand alone DVD Recorder to only use DVD%2BRW or DVD-RW media, as these are re-recordable DVDs and you can play them on any DVD player as soon as you finished recording. If you buy the standard DVD%2BR or DVD-R disc, you can not re-record on them and more importantly you will need to do an extra step on your Stand Alone DVD Recorder called Finalize. If you forget to Finalize, the DVD will not play on anything other then your DVD recorder. You do not need to Finalize a DVD%2BRW or DVD-RW disc, which is why I recommend you buy them for stand alone DVD recorders. For internal or external computer DVD recorders you do not need to manually finalize anything as the software does everything itself so you don't need to spend the extra money on re-recordable discs. Having said that, I would still buy at least 10 re-recordable discs as when you're first recording on the computer as you'll probably make a bunch of mistakes, almost everyone does, and this way you can practice till you make perfect. Personally, I would recommend if you have a friend who has recorded DVDs on the computer to show you how to do everything step by step. It's an easy process but like everything else you learn by trial and error.

I also noticed that when I recorded DVDs, the drop in quality from recording at SP to LP and LP to EP, is a lot more prominent in DVDS then video tape. If quality is a concern, I would record at SP when you can and no lower than EP.

I hope you enjoy using your DVD recorder. If you are planning to do things more advanced then editing, then of course I would recommend buying a more advanced recorder but for the basic things, you can get a decent DVD recorder between $50-$100.

Infinity Kappa Perfect 12 Excursion

Maxing out an Infinity Kappa Perfect Dual Voice Coil. The amp is a NEW Kappa One 500@4ohm and 800@2ohm. The sub is about 2 years old and is falling apart, I am running it on one voice coil because the other one broke apart. Home Theater Soundproofing Using Acoustic Panels

Having a home theater system certainly increases the pleasure of watching a movie. Even when most people like to hear movies set at realistic sound levels, the resultant noise can definitely be annoying for the neighbors. This is why it is essential for home theater owners to use good soundproofing in their houses to avoid complaints from the neighborhood.

Soundproofing bass waves is difficult and needs professional expertise to completely soundproof a room. The best way to soundproof a room is to construct a floating room wherein the ceiling, walls and floors are structurally isolated from the rest of the building, making it totally soundproof. But that is an extremely expensive procedure.

A comparatively cheap soundproofing option would be to use acoustic panels to soundproof a room. Acoustic engineers use a combination of absorption and diffusion techniques to make a room soundproof. These are used to absorb sound energy as well as distribute the necessary sound waves evenly across the room so that unwanted noise is eliminated. Acoustic panels are porous in nature and when sound waves pass through them, the waves get trapped and the sound is deadened. Thus, for soundproofing walls, it is very effective.

Acoustic panels help in reducing sound vibrations by controlling stray waves known as 'flutter echoes', 'room modes' and other vibrations that may result from a room's proportions and construction. The soundproofing material usually used for acoustic panels are fiberglass panes in simple frames, which absorb the sound. These panels are also known as 'bass traps' as they trap bass frequencies and prevent the same from spreading. For soundproofing ceiling and soundproofing walls, acoustic diffusers, fabrics and foam may also be used.

Floor soundproofing is usually not needed in case acoustic panels are used. But as a precautionary measure, using carpets are generally recommended by soundproofing experts. Acoustic panels can be fitted anywhere in a room depending on what looks visually attractive. Nowadays, attractively patterned acoustic panels are also available, which serve the dual purpose of home soundproofing as well as that of wallpaper. So, if someone is thinking about enjoying movie soundtracks and music on hishome theater, using the right soundproofing material becomes the ideal way to do it without causing disturbance to the neighbors.

Car Audio Systems & Car Stereo

The most common and familiar piece of audio equipment is the radio/tape player/CD player/DVD Player which is generically described as a Head unit, which also can be called a head deck. It is also the most likely component to be upgraded with an aftermarket item. A recent development in head unit technology has been the addition of CD players with MP3, Ogg, WMA, AAC, and USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support.

Not many people are aware of the fact that a good car audio system performs at its optimal best only when it is matched with the internal and external specifications of the car it is housed in. There is no point in getting a high PMPO, 500 watts car audio system and then housing it in the small (relatively small that is) confine of a Volkswagen beetle. At the same time, there is no use at all in getting a tinny, entry level car audio system and putting it in the spacious interiors of a hummer.

Car Audio amplifiers are used to give extra power to speakers in the system that need more power than what the stereo or head unit can produce. The most common amplifiers are used for subwoofers. Preferences for amplifiers greatly very. Today there are countless brands and prices to choose from. The most common amps are 1 channel (mono-block) or 2, and 4 channels.
